Dog Calming Music Serenade to Savage Beast
There are a lot of music remedies promoted for dogs on the Internet. A brief online search can make one think that they were inspired by the classical music for babies trend of a few years back. But are they tried and true dog calming techniques or just a contrived melody made of false hopes and wishes? Perhaps most promising is the scientific research that employs the same technologies used to relax humans, effective for calming dogs. Termed “Psychoacoustics,” it is the study of sound perception; and also includes scientifically assessing the neurological effects of sound. Psychoacoustic researchers Joshua Leeds and veterinary neurologist Susan Wagner have recently published a book Through a Dog’s Ear: Using Sound to Improve the Health and Behavior of your Canine Companion. Mr. Leeds has over 20 years of experience in the field of music production and sound research, and has produced many recordings created to facilitate human relaxation and healing. Leeds, has directed his attention on the study and research of the canine nervous system, and has co-authored this book to help dog owners understand their dogs’ perception and reaction to sounds along with a starter CD of music clinically developed to soothe and calm dogs. The CD is psychoacoustically arranged for optimal soothing and calming effects to unwind and relax your dog. And for those concerned about becoming sedated by the soft serenade along side their dog, Leeds has produced a CD with a bit more of an upbeat tempo to keep owners wide eyed and alert. |

Okay, she’s not exactly a savage beast but she does turn into a raging bundle of anxiety in the car or home alone. Could music be the way to soothe and calm your dog’s soul, slaying her beast of burden?
